Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

This program is designed for paramedics, nurses, physicians, and other allied health professionals to prepare them to provide advanced care in cardiac emergencies. ERGSS provides a low-stress environment in which experienced faculty guide students to success through realistic scenarios using modern equipment. Successful completion of standardized written and practical examinations earn graduates a nationally recognized 2 year certification card, as required by many employers and medical control authorities.

Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS)

This American Heart Association approved course prepares healthcare providers and other professional rescuers to provide rescue breathing, CPR, or automated external defibrillation tonheart attack victims. Successful completion of standardized written and practical examinations earn graduates a nationally recognized 2 year certification card, as required by many employers.

Blood Borne Pathogen

This training is designed to provide a basic understanding of bloodborne pathogens, common modes of transmission, and methods of preventing exposure.

Emergency Medical Technician – Basic

As an Emergency Medical Technician ? Basic, you play a critical role in emergency response to urgent situations and events. As an EMT you will learn how to recognize abnormal physical conditions through analysis of diagnostic signs and symptoms. In addition you will learn how to care for persons with an illness or injury at the scene of an incident and throughout transport to a medical facility while providing critical information to advanced providers ensuring the best possible outcomes for your patients. Basic EMT course is approximately 165 classroom hours and 35 clinical hours with a total of 200 course hours. The Basic EMT course consists of; patient assessment, airway management, medical emergencies, traumatic emergencies, infant through elderly assessment and care as well as pregnancy, childbirth, EMS operations and preparatory.

Hospital Incident Command

This course provides education for hospitals in a comprehensive incident management system intended for use in both emergent and non-emergent situations. It provides hospitals of all sizes with tools needed to advance their emergency preparedness and response capability. In addition, it assists hospitals in meeting federal and accreditation standards.

Hospital Response Team – Awareness

This course provides hospital staff with a basic understanding of state and federal laws, incident management, decontamination, and termination of incidents and the receiving of patients involved in a hazardous materials incident or WMD attack. In addition, this training culminates in hands on exercises in which hospital staff have the opportunity to perform life saving skills donned in personal protective equipment.

Medical First Responder

As a Medical First Responder, you are a first line responder responsible for initiation of life saving treatments to individuals that have been involved in or having a life threatening incident. As an MFR you will learn how to recognize abnormal physical conditions through analysis of diagnostic signs and symptoms. In addition, you will learn how to care for persons with an illness or injury at the scene of an incident while providing critical information to advanced providers ensuring the best possible outcomes for your patients. The Medical First Responder program has approximately 45 classroom hours and 15 practical hours with a total of 60 hours. A Medical First Responder course consists of patient assessment, airway management, medical emergencies, traumatic emergencies, infant through elderly assessment and care as well as pregnancy, childbirth, EMS operations and preparatory. Enrollment: Programs begin throughout the course of the year based on student need at various training locations across the state.

Paramedic

As an Emergency Medical Technician Paramedic, you play a critical role in emergency response to urgent situations and events. As a Paramedic you will learn how to recognize abnormal physical conditions through a systematic analysis of diagnostic signs and symptoms. In addition you will learn how to care for persons with an illness or injury at the scene on an incident and throughout transport to a medical facility while implementing basic as well as Advanced Life Support techniques and procedures. These include advanced airway procedures, intravenous therapy, cardiology, pharmacology, pediatrics, and trauma care. Paramedic course is approximately 500-600 classroom and 500-600 clinical and field internship. Paramedic course will consist of Preparatory, airway and ventilation, patient assessment, trauma, medical, special considerations, assessment based management, and Operations

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

This elite course prepares medical professionals to meet the challenges of providing appropriate, advanced care for infants and children suffering from cardiovascular crises. Successful completion of standardized written and practical examinations earn graduates a nationally recognized 2 year certification card, as required by many employers and medical control authorities.

Personal Protection Inside the Home (Michigan CPL/CCW)

This NRA approved course teaches the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude essential to the safe and efficient use of a handgun for protection of self and family, and to provide information on the law-abiding individuals right to self-defense.This is an eight-hour course. Students should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development.

Upon successful completion the student will receive a course completion certifciate which will qualify the student to apply for a State of Michigan Concealed Pistol License. Firearms or ammunition are not included in the course.

Due to the fact that this course provides education regarding personal protection it is important that firearm selection is appropriate for that purpose. Due to the nature of the course it mandatory a firearm chambered in a .380 or larger be used for the range portion of the course.

Personal Protection Outside the Home

This NRA approved course, Personal Protection Outside the Home, is a 9 hour classroom and range course which focuses on teaching skills necessary to safely carry a concealed firearm outside the home while doing day to day activities. This course picks up where the Personal Protection in the Home course leaves off and teaches skills including how to safely draw a gun from a concealment hip holster or concealment handbag.

Successful completion of Personal Protection In the Home is a prerequisite for attending Personal Protection Outside the Home. This course is not a class for beginning shooters, it is intended to provide additional skills to citizens that choose to make carrying a firearm part of their daily activiities. You must be able to hit a paper plate at 15 feet with a handgun in order to get the maximum benefit from the range session. Firearms and ammunition is not included in this course.

Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS)

This comprehensive program, developed by the National Association of EMTs, prepares basic or advanced life support providers to care for patients suffering serious traumatic injuries. Students are taught to rapidly assess patients, prioritize care, and deliver life-saving measures quickly and efficiently.

Prehospital Trauma Life Support Instructor

This program is an instructor level course that is designed to provide critical information needed to become a PHTLS instructor. In order to be eligible to take the course you must have a current PHTLS or ITLS provider card.

Specialist Bridge Course

This course is specially designed to provide the necessary didactic and practical education for the current Michigan EMT Specialists to upgrade their skills to the new standards that will be required effective January 1, 2013. This course is designed to meet the needs of the students busy schedule by offering the program through  a Saturday format. Upon successful completion of the course the prospective student will be required to take the EMT Specialist National Registry exam to attain Michigan licensure. Any currently Licensed EMT Specialist will be required to complete a bridge course prior to December 31 2012 or their licensure status will be reduced to EMT Basic effective January 1, 2013. Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC)

This program is designed for providers working in austere environments. TCCC is a must have training for EMS personnel working with tactical teams. NAEMT’s Tactical Combat Casualty Care course introduces evidence-based, life-saving techniques and strategies for providing the best trauma care on the battlefield, under the auspices of the PHTLS program. It is the only TCCC course endorsed by the American College of Surgeons.

NAEMT’s Tactical Combat Casualty Care course (TCCC) was recognized by the Board of Critical Care Transport Paramedic Certification (BCCTPC) as helping to prepare students to take the TP-C exam..

Tactical Medical Specialist

This program provides education in medical assessment and treatment for the basic as well as the advanced Emergency Medical Services provider associated with the operational support of tactical teams while functioning in the ?hot zone?. During the course the is an emphasis on various facets involved in the response and treatment of patients in austere environment.

Trauma First Response

The Trauma First Response course is a one-day continuing education course that teaches the principles of Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) to non-EMS practitioners, including first responders, police officers, firefighters, rescue personnel and safety officers. It helps them prepare to care for trauma patients while serving as part of a transport team or awaiting a transport provider.

The course serves up core PHTLS content to those who haven?t had EMT or advanced prehospital training. The lectures and practical stations are designed for the type of care first responders can render while awaiting patient transport or when assisting paramedics and EMTs at a trauma scene.

Violent Patient Management

Participants, under the direct supervision of a certified PPCT instructor, will experience both lecture and hands-on defensive tactics training. Emphasis is placed on awareness, predatornprofiling, escape evasion, physical control tactics and defensive counterstrikes to manage aggressive patient behavior.

Wilderness Medicine

Wilderness Medicine differs significantly from conventional EMS and other programs that are oriented towards the urban environment. Rural ambulance crews and wilderness rescue teams face challenges that are unknown to the inner city provider. In this course we address the special problems associated with prolonged patient care (>2 hours to the hospital), severe environments, and improvised equipment as well as rural EMS ambulance operations. This is the definitive medical training course for rural EMS providers and wilderness rescue team members.
